The presumption of innocence has become severely eroded in many areas of the law. The CPI Presumption of Innocence Program is working to restore the presumption to end wrongful convictions and assure the criminal justice system remains committed to seeking justice.

Wrongful Conviction Day was observed on October 4. This year the Center for Prosecutor Integrity highlighted the important role of investigators and detectives in conducting their investigations in an impartial, fair, and honest manner.

WRONGFUL CONVICTIONS OF SEXUAL ASSAULT
Wrongful convictions of sexual assault, including child sex abuse, is the second leading category of wrongful convictions, after homicide. Working with prosecutors, law enforcement agencies, defense attorneys, victims of wrongful convictions, and others, the Wrongful Convictions of Sexual Assault Program seeks to curb wrongful convictions of sexual assault and reverse the problem of over-criminalization.

The Registry of Prosecutorial Misconduct enables researchers, policymakers, bar disciplinary bodies, and others to identify common types of misconduct, assess trends, and compare jurisdictions.
